We’re so thrilled to be kicking off the two-week read-a-long of Alicia Rae’s Tattooed series! Today we’ll be discussing chapters ten through fifteen of the first book, Tattooed Emotions! If you haven’t read it up yet, make sure you pick up a copy and follow along with the read-a-long!

What happened in chapter ten - chapter fifteen?

Before sneaking out Damien’s house the morning after, she leaves him a check that only partially pays back her company owes him, but she’s determined to pay him back the full amount.

A few days later, Raelyn is at work when Cale shows up, wanting to talk. He tries to explain why he took the money - he and his wife were trying to have a baby but not having any luck and he just wanted to be able to make it happen. While Raelyn understands, she doesn’t forgive him.

She gets another unexpected guest that day - Damien. He’s incredibly pissed off that she tried to pay him, saying if what he wanted from her was money he would have taken her to court, not to bed. He’s not letting her go that easily. He demands she show up to his house on Saturday, dressed for the beach.

While Raelyn is initially unsure whether she’s going to show up at Damien’s or not, she decides to take a leap of faith. She ends up having one of the most incredible days of her life. Damien takes her out on the boat and they spend the whole day together, laughing and getting to know each other, and having fun out in the water.

Raelyn wakes up later in the night, incredibly sick and nauseous. Damien holds her while she vomits and helps her shower, then puts her back to bed. He agrees to sleep without his shirt off, but only if she promises not to touch his scars.

I didn’t even realize I had been crying and shaking uncontrollably until I felt Damien open the passenger door. He unhooked my seat belt and lifted me into his strong arms.

“Shh, I’ve got you, Raelyn,” he breathed. He softly pressed his lips to my hair to kiss me. “And I’m never letting you go.”

I looped my arms around his shoulders and buried my face into his neck. Deep sobs racked through my body, my tears soaking his flesh.

Damien carried me through the breezeway and into the house where his long strides ascended the curvy staircase.

When we reached his bedroom, he gently placed me on the bed. Then, he climbed in beside me and pulled me into him.

The afternoon sun beamed in through the windows, yet I’d never been so tired and drained in all my life. I felt trapped with a relentless fear, and my mind was on overload. It wanted to shut down and block out the past two hours of my life.

My only solace was the man before me, caging me with his warmth.

Our faces were less than an inch apart, and Damien closed the small gap to brush his lips along mine for a passionate, tender kiss, reaching the depths of my soul. “I love you, Raelyn.” His gray irises stared at me with nothing other than love, melting me. “And nothing will stand in my way of making you mine—forever.”

And I wanted to be his, more than anything.

Damien lightly laid me on the bed, removed my towel, and tucked me beneath the sheets. “Do you need anything? Water, saltines, anything?” Concern filled his features once again.

“No.” I smiled. “I’m fine. Just tired.”

He nodded his acknowledgment, and then he walked to the bathroom door while pulling his soaking wet shirt from his back. He tossed it on the chair, every muscle flexing with his movements.

I might have been tired, but that didn’t stop me from being stunned into silence as my body flamed to life at the sight of his bare torso. My greedy eyes traveled from one end of his shoulder to the other, drinking in the beauty of his ink.

Without glancing at me, he sauntered over to his dresser to pull out a dark-colored shirt.

“Don’t,” I whispered, feeling my heart stop beating in my chest.

It destroyed me a little every time he concealed this part of himself from me. I knew something awful had happened to Damien and that he didn’t want to talk about it, but him hiding it from me hurt beyond any other physical pain I’d ever experienced.

His arms paused midair, and he gazed over his shoulder. From his side profile, I saw the instant his body tensed, and his jaw clenched.

“Please…” I swallowed thickly and dug for courage. “You want me to stay. And I want to lie with you…with nothing between us.” I realized I was being unfair, but I was that desperate.

A visible tremor shook through him. It felt as though an eternity had passed before he spoke, “Don’t touch them.”

My heart swelled within its confined space. He was going to trust me.

“I won’t,” I breathed in relief. “I promise.”

“Don’t ever break a promise to me, Raelyn.” He slowly lowered his arms and pivoted to face me. “So, don’t make one if you can’t keep it.”

“I keep my promises,” I vowed with the utmost sincerity.

“As do I. Always.” His voice was reverent.
