This is the 3rd book in Jaycee Ford's Love Bug Series, and my very first book by this author.  Although I didn't read the first two books in the series, Watching Fireflies and Dragonfly Awakening, I would highly recommend reading them before embarking on Hornet's Nest. It makes understanding and following the supporting characters much easier. Having said that, I thoroughly enjoyed Lance and Katherine's story immensely. Her descriptions made me feel as if I was standing close by watching this book unfold chapter by chapter.

Hornet's Nest follows the story of the womanizing country boy Lance Walton and the city girl accountant Kathleen Klein.

From the beginning Kathleen has been warned to stay away from Lance, yet Lance is drawn to Kathleen from their very first meeting.

Kathleen had thought she's succeeded in dodging Lance's every advance until a moment of weakness at her best friends wedding changes the course of her life, and unbeknownst to her Lance's as well.

Fate brings them together a year later, in the unlikeliest of places. From that moment on, its literally game on for both of them.
Can Kathleen keep Lance at a distance? Can Lance convenience Kathleen to give him a second change and prove to her that he's not the same guy he was a year ago? Can they finally get their happily ever after?
Be prepared for a roller coaster ride of emotions - laughter, tears, anger and a whole lot of steamy bedroom scenes, with a few "I so wish I could kick his butt moments".

From what I've gathered Lance has grown up quite a bit in this book. He's changed from this womanizing playboy who would bed a different woman with no remorse, to wanting that someone special to share his life with. Basically what his best friends have. The one night he spent with Kathleen changed him. Throughout that year apart the womanizing stopped and the only woman he wanted was Kathleen.

Kathleen is a complex person. She's beautiful and smart. Compassionate and funny. Yet she builds walls around herself, closing herself off from everyone - pretending everything is fine and dandy when in actual fact she's hurting inside and relying on Jim and Jack to help her forget her pain. Yet somehow she knows that Lance is the key to helping her heal.

Its a beautifully written story and I'm looking forward to reading the first two books in this series the first chance I get as well as future books from Jaycee Ford.

“Need a refill?”

            Her eyes shot over to me. I smiled holding out another glass for her. She didn’t appear to be drunk by any means.
Something told me that this girl could hold her liquor. Her hand reached out, taking the glass from my grip. When our fingers touched, I knew. I knew she couldn’t deny what was happening between us. There was something definitely happening between us; something that had never happened before … except for once. I turned my head and found my pregnant ex-girlfriend on the lap of my best friend a few tables down. My heart hurt, I could admit that. But seeing two people I truly loved being undeniably happy made it all worth it. I gave them hell and I wished I hadn’t, but things were right with the world now. I was happy enough for them.

            “Would you like to sit?”

            Yep. Things were right with the world now.

            I sat down next to Katherine in a wooden folding chair. The distance was too great, so I adjusted my chair, becoming almost flush with hers. I draped my arm around her and rested it on the back of the chair. I stared out over the dance floor and could feel her eyes question my arm around her. She would just have to get used to it. I planned on touching a lot more than just her shoulder.

            “So, what has you all mopey?” I asked as I continued to watch Jordan and Tom’s first dance.

            “I’m not mopey,” she shot back, proving that she was in fact mopey.

            “Says the girl who already downed a bottle of champagne before the first dance is over.” I glanced at her, and her eyes fell on me. In that moment, I knew why she was upset. I looked at Jordan
and Tom dancing and then back at Katherine. I squeezed her into a half-ass hug and said, “Think of it this way, beautiful. You didn’t lose a friend. You gained me.”

            She laughed while elbowing me in the stomach, and said, “I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.”

            Katherine continued to laugh until she caught my eye. I leaned in close to her, slowly brushing my nose against her cheek until my lips reached her ear. The breath caught in her throat.

            “I’ll prove to you how good it can be.”

I stepped toward the window and gazed out over the snow that had begun to fall across the landscape of rolling hills. Candlelight glowed around me, igniting the fiery need between my legs. The tap of his boots echoed in the silence, thumping toward me. The sound stopped right behind me. The heat radiated off him mere inches away. His breath tickled my neck, and my chest pounded with nerves and disbelief as to what was going on between us. Barely a few sentences were said, but years of sexual tension were about to combust.

“Are you still single?” I whispered. I knew what I needed, but I wouldn’t dare try to take him away. His hands glided down my arms. I closed my eyes to absorb his touch.
