BLOG TOUR PROMO

Sexy. Famous. A player on and off the field.

Cooper Knox has a body built for sex and sin, and he's my dirty little secret.
He was supposed to be a one-night stand - but now he’s back in town, and he’s going to find out the truth.

I’m his best friend’s little sister: off-limits and totally out of his league.
We swore we’d stay away from each other.

Our secret could destroy everything.

But Knox always gets what he wants.

And he wants me

Excerpt
“Yeah, well, now that Knox is back in town, we’re gonna have to find him a steady girl,” Cassie says, furrowing her brow as if she’s scanning her mental rolodex.
“Yeah, between the two of us we know plenty of girls who are still single.” Savannah pulls her phone out, ready to start scrolling through her contacts.
Cash laughs. “Don’t hold your breath, ladies. The local diamond dolls are gonna be all over our boy here. Let him enjoy it before you start trying to chain him down.”
Groupies. I’ve gotta admit—the routine gets old, but the eye candy never fails to tempt me. Like I said, you only live once. “Hey, the last girl I hooked up with didn’t even know who I was,” I can’t help pointing out.
Ryder laughs. “Is that what she told you?”
I roll my eyes.
“Did you find her hidden under a rock, then? I hear those cloistered nuns are hot.” Cash grins at me, that old twinkle in his eye. He’d never mess around on Savannah, but I swear that’s made him worse than ever about hounding me to go hook up in his place.
“Actually, I met her right here in this fine establishment of ours.”
“Nice. Hooking up in the library—exactly what we had in mind,” Cash says with more than a little enthusiasm.
“You say that like we haven’t already,” Savannah butts in with a pointed eyebrow, which earns her a high-five from Cassie.
“Hey don’t change the subject,” Ryder interrupts. “You’ve been holding out on us, bro. When was this? And who, someone from school?”
“New Year’s. And nope. Never seen her before in my life. Or since, for that matter.”
It may not have been the first time a New Year’s countdown and a whole bunch of booze ended with a girl screaming my name, but this time was different. For one thing, this time I was sober enough that my memory of the way she felt beneath me in that baseball field is still seared red-hot into my brain. The number of times I’ve relived that night, her hands all over me, her breathing heavy as she urged my fingers closer to her soaking panties . . .
“So that’s where you disappeared that night, you dirty dog!” Cash punches my arm across the table.
Savannah laughs and tops off her and Cash’s glasses of bubbly with the last of the champagne. “Anybody you care to see again?”
Yeah, you could definitely say that. If I knew how to find her, that is.
“Would if I could,” I admit. “But she was a one-and-done kinda girl. Said no when I asked for her digits.”
“Oooooh,” Ryder says. “Love ‘em and leave ‘em. The very best kind.”
Cassie punches him in the arm and steals his drink out from under him. “A mystery woman, nice. What did she look like? Maybe she’s a regular.”
I open my mouth to describe her—long brown hair, huge, sexy, deep brown eyes, a sway in her step when she walks, a gravelly voice when she’s coming—okay maybe I wouldn’t have added that last part. But right as I’m about to start speaking, a knee collides with me from behind.
I manage to keep from dropping my scotch, though just barely. I’m about to spin around and bark a curse at whoever just staggered into me, when Jackson, who’s been oddly quiet so far, stiffens. “Oh, hey,” he says, looking not at me, but above and behind me.
Everyone’s eyes follow his, and I turn around to find myself staring up at a familiar face.
“What, that’s your only greeting to your beloved little sister?”
There, standing behind me, close enough to touch, close enough that I can smell the familiar floral bite of her perfume, is my not-so-mysterious-after-all New Year’s hookup. Grinning sarcastically while looking straight at Jackson.
Little sister? Jackson’s younger sister is my mysterious New Year’s hookup?
Fuck.
You have got to be kidding me.

I was too warm and my mouth had a funny metallic taste in
it. I was comfortable though, and I didn’t want to get up. Still, my bladder demanded I move, and eventually it won. It always did.
I sucked in a deep breath to chase back the cobwebs and opened my eyes. I nearly crossed them to see what it was crammed and blurry in my field of vision, all pink, white, and yellow.
I backed my head up on the pillow and frowned. A pink iPod with white headphones coiled neatly next to it, a creamy yellow mini post-it note clinging to the controls.
Play me, Faith was written in a spidery scrawl on the post-it in black ink. The writing unfamiliar to me. I sat up on the bed and
looked around the darkened bedroom. No one was there, nothing stirred… I felt my forehead crush down in a frown.
I looked around the room again, just to be sure, before I plucked the headphones off the smooth cotton pillowcase. I spent far longer
than was necessary uncoiling them and tucking them into my ears before I plugged them into the little player. I read and reread the note before plucking it from the front of the little clip and touching the little triangle button to make the thing play.
My breath caught, and stilled completely as the first leading strains of Hope Never Dies spilled from the earbuds. The person playing
the guitar was masterful, the notes solemn and quiet, building and subsequently building me up, surrounding me, tucking around me like an old and familiar blanket, or really, bandaging some of the broken bits of me. Holding me together again, just enough to allow me to mend.

Marlin. It had to be. No one else knew what this song did to me, for me, in those darkened nights of desolation and ruin. I stared out of the floor to ceiling obsidian glass, at the faint glimmer of silver as the water lapped upon the shore and let the music soothe me some more. My nap had done me some good, calming some of the disquiet of earlier, and I was glad for it. I let my fingertips idly play with the band of leather and metal around my wrist and thought about what the boy said to me back in the rank dark of that awful
storage unit.
There are still good people out there, Faith. You gotta believe me…

Excerpt

He runs a hand over the back of his neck, “Oh, and just so you know, when we train together…” He smirks, then leaning in he whispers against my ear, “I’m the one in control.”

I blink a couple times, opening my mouth to argue, then decide against it.

Pulling away he meets my eyes, “Can you handle that?” He’s still whispering.

I feel my cheeks heat. I want to say, Actually, I don’t know if I can. Instead I answer, “Yeah, I think I can handle it,” in a funny voice that I don’t recognize. The cocky son of a bitch can probably do anything he wants talking to me like that!

His mouth turns up. “Good.”

Excerpt

Feeling a stich in my side, I slowed to a stop and unzipped my jacket. With my hands on my hips, I took several deep breaths, embracing the sharp burn in my lungs. I loved this time of year, when the snow was at its last days. I enjoyed the cold white sheets of ice, because I knew that they would be gone in no time. Just like everything else.

“Hey, girl!” An SUV full of guys pulled up beside me, the one in the passenger’s seat sticking his head out the window. “What’s your name?” he asked, looking me up and down.

Ignoring him, I turned on my heel and kept walking. But the SUV stayed at my side, slowly skimming the edge of the sidewalk. Warmth flooded my body, along with a mix of fear and unease.

“Hey!” the driver shouted, leaning over the console. “We’re talking to you! Come here!”

They must have been students, like me and Sara. The neighborhood wasn’t far from campus and we knew a handful of people at school who had rented houses here before, out of a dislike for dorms and apartments. If these guys went to UW, I hoped that today would be our first and last encounter.

“Maybe she needs to warm up,” the passenger suggested. “Here, Ice Queen! Have some coffee.” He threw a Starbucks cup out the window at me, despite the fact that the container wasn’t empty.

As I braced myself, steaming hot coffee burst through the lid and splattered all over me. I staggered back and collided with another runner, as we both fell to the ground.

“Yes!” the guys in the SUV cheered. They took off, speeding through the neighborhood, as the passenger stuck his head out the window and rejoiced in celebration.

“Jerks,” the stranger beside me muttered.

Sitting back on my elbow, I looked over at the one thing I hated the most in this world right now. The one thing that had to be here at this moment. A Guy.

“Let me help you up,” he offered, extending his hand for me to take. When we were both on our feet again, he looked at me and smiled. It was the best smile I had ever seen.

Dressed in jogging pants and a sweatshirt, he was the embodiment of everything I had been searching for and now sworn off for good. Tall. Lean. Attractive. His short, curly hair was the darkest shade of brunette, yet not quite black. His eyes were soft and light, his irises somewhere in between blue and gray. My mouth watered at the sight of his chiseled cheekbones, strong jawline, and the slight stubble on his face.

He was my dream guy, but I had given up on dreaming a long time ago. So I did what I had to do. I ran.

“Hey, wait,” he pleaded, grabbing my arm. “Are you okay? I’m sorry about those guys. Don’t worry about them. They’re just jerks.”

I nodded, then looked down at the coffee stains on my clothes. These would be fun to get out, especially since our washing machine was a gadget sent straight from hell.

“I’m fine,” I said. “Thanks.”

With my head down, I stepped back and walked away from him.
