Book 5: Last Song

 Synopsis

The fifth Brothers of Rock novel featuring Chasing Cross finds drummer Rick Saunderst living in a personal hell. After walking away from Chasing Cross in the middle of their tour, he tries everything he can to settle the demons in his soul, but the all night parties, booze, women, and jam sessions cannot silence the voice deep within...

Sarah is a small town veterinarian, not quite sure where her life is going. She walks her opinionated dog and lives her life in a simple routine. When a moving truck disrupts her quiet street, she must learn to accept her new neighbor's noisy habits and sexy stare.

For the first time ever, booze can't mask his feelings. After over a decade of the rockstar life, Rick finally feels like he has a life off stage. Jamming in a garage with old friends and getting to know Sarah, and her loyal dog, Molly, is his definition of home.

The rest of Chasing Cross continue the tour, with help from Fallen Tuesday’s lead singer, Luke, as their replacement drummer. He brings life back to the band, but even still, without Rick, the band feels incomplete.

In the final book featuring Chasing Cross, choices will come to a head. Chasing Cross must decide whether to move on without Rick and Rick must settle his own battles, personally and professionally. Falling in love wasn’t part of the deal, but sometimes love happens when a person least expects it.

Book 3: A Sound Like Hope

Books 4 and 5 Coming Soon

It was an absolute honour to be given the opportunity to interview Karolyn James, even if it was via a computer screen. I still imagined myself sitting anxiously with my notes as I awaited her presence.

Books and Friendz: Tell us a bit about yourself.

Karolyn James: I’m Karolyn James. I’m the author of a lot of books and under some pen names. I write romance and try to get into every niche in there. That means rockstars, bikers, small town, western, historical, and gritty new adult stuff. I’m blessed to do this full-time right now and I love it. As far as getting personal... I have two sons, two dogs, and a cat. I live in a nobody kind of town and kind of like it that way. I read, write, and enjoy my friends and family. And, of course, I LOVE spending days talking to readers!

B&F:  Why writing?

KJ:  Because it’s awesome! I get to make things up, write them down, and readers tend to enjoy it. It’s truly an amazing thing and a dream I’ve had since I was a kid. I’ve always loved reading and always wanted to be a writer.

B&F:  Do you write more by logic or intuition, or some combination of the two?

KJ:  Both, I guess. I go with what I know and what I like to learn about. Rockstars are natural because I grew up in that rockstar/music world. I obviously wasn’t around in the 1800’s for my historical romance books BUT I love reading and researching the subject. So I run with what I know and love.

B&F: Who would you say is your biggest supporter? –

KJ:  Not to be all “awwww” or cliché... but it’s the readers! They tell me what they like, don’t like, and what they want more of. I put out Brothers of Rock with the intentions of a couple books. Because of the response it turned into five... then turned into five more with a new band... AND there will be five more next year in 2015 with a new band!

B&F: What do you think most characterizes your writing?

KJ: Romance you can believe in. It’s not always love at first sight or laced with clichés. I like to write about those who have flaws, are flawed, will be flawed, and those who are challenged in life. It’s not always easy, right? I love building the romance from the ground up and letting the characters come to life.

B&F: For those that haven’t read your series Brothers of Rock, how many books are there so far and what are their titles?

KJ: There are two sets of books. The first five follow the band, Chasing Cross. The second five (four and five are still to be released) follow the band, Fallen Tuesday. You don’t need to read one set to read the other... but you should read them all!

Chasing Cross:
1- All Access
2- Broken Sound
3- Bitter Farewell
4- Buried Notes
5- Last song

Fallen Tuesday:
1- A Voice to Love
2- A Song For Us
3- A Sound Like Hope
4 & 5 yet to come!

B&F:  Break down the series for us?

KJ:  Each book follows a band member of the bands in the series. It follows not just the band member but the band. The tours, the shows, the writing, the music, the recording. These guys are rockstars on stage but real men in real life. That’s the fun part of writing these books.

B&F: Who or what inspired this series?

KJ:  I wanted to write a series about rockstars off stage. I wanted to capture those moments of being on stage in front of twenty thousand people... but what happens when the music is done? The show is over... the tour ends... it’s time to record... just imagine what it must be like. So I wanted to bring that to life. To show these rockstars as men.

B&F:  Who is your favourite character and why? What makes them so special to you?

KJ: That’s a hard question... wow. I LOVE Johnnie (from All Access) because he was the original rockstar for me. The guy and book that started it all. He holds a special place in my heart. I also love Danny (Bitter Farewell) for what he did by going home to find his long lost love. AND in the Falling Tuesday series I LOVE Gray (A Song For Us) because of how much he had to endure. But I need to be cliché... I LOVE THEM ALL!

B&F:  What projects are you working on at present?

KJ:  I’m getting ready to launch the fourth Fallen Tuesday Brothers of Rock book. Then I have a HUGE rockstar project starting in September. AND I can’t forget about my MC romance series, Back Down Devil. The third book in the series is coming the end of this month too. So many books!
